Textile Materials Inspired by Structural Colour in Nature

My PhD research explored the use of structural colour in textiles, inspired by the wings of butterflies and exoskeletons of beetles, as an alternative to traditional print techniques.

Through the use of inkjet printing technology, cholesteric liquid crystals were printed on to treated textiles to produce optical effects.
